Flames of War -Trademe madness

I love it when you pick up an awesome deal, 2000 points worth of Germans for $35 plus shipping. I got the package yesterday and there are a whole lot of damaged krauts and I think a bunch of smaller scale vehicles.

1x Konigstiger,
2 x Tigers
5x Panzer IVs
6x 7.5cm guns
1x 8.8cm gun
2x Hummels
2 mortar teams
2 HMG teams
about 70 infantry
and some support trucks/transport in 2 scales.

A lot of the stuff is gonna need rebasing/stripping, I think some of the glue used was supposed to be for shoes.

That's not all. For $NZ130 shipped, I have some Plastic soldier company figures coming form UK (130 infantry, 60 Infantry w/ heavy weapons and T34's).  When they arrive I can put up maybe 1500-2000 points of Russian Strelkovy with Tank and infantry heavy weapons support at about 300 models. When you compare the amount of models in both armies,  it's quite striking to understand the difference between German quality and Russian quantity. I'm also brushing up on the History of World War II which I must say is a fascinating read on the overall war as I've only read about parts of the war previously. And I'm looking at tank websites...So sad.

I could have spent twice that on Hobbit boxed set at NZ$245 or $145 on 4 resin infantry figures and been less than satisfied. But I digress, I don't care about LOTR/Hobbit games that much but the prices are enough to make you weep. I had a chat with someone about regional trade embargoes and why GW stuff is so expensive because retail/trade/publicly owned nature of GW and regional considerations and licensing. I understand the angles of why they're trying to justify the prices but it's blown out of proportion. It's like the housing bubble, GW are having a hobby pricing bubble and they'll end up killing themselves out of the hobby.

All things diseased and pus ridden.

My Wife takes way better pics than I do...

Daemons vs lizards

Only a short post today as I'm fiddling with my new pone, it takes ok pictures must learn to have a steady hand though, here are some pics of 2400 points versus Liam's Lizards. Game ended up with me holding the tower in the 4th turn with Bloodletters.

2400 points GUO, HoK 29 Letters, HoN, 25 Plaguebearers, HoT w/ Shadow magic, Epidimius 5 Furies, 3 Screamers, 2x 1 Beasts of Nurgle and 2 x 1 Fiends. I got to take a new list next week. My Nurgle Daemons are failing to get the tally high enough fast but that maybe just because I was facing primarily T4 troops.

My Daemons.
Liam and his Lizardmen, he needs way more skinks.
Bloodletters killing the Skinks and taking over the watchtower
Salamanders surrounded and destroyed.

Skink Priest being eaten by Harpies after sSalamanders run down.
Stegadon charges Plaguebearers.
Slaan and Temple guard Charging tower, only to bounce off.
I've almost finished my unit of Plaguebearers.

Nurgle Chaos Warriors, Cultists and T34's

So I splurged out on my Mortal Nurgle army and got the Avatars of War Corruptors of Apocalypse, straight in as Nurgle Chaos Warriors. Here they are in all their bits.
I must say I'm quite impressed with them, I wouldn't have mided a bit more customizationability but they are extremely nice sculpts and I especiall like the musician.
I had to assemble one with one mutated arm and he is nice and blocky and imposing with lots of details for painting rust and pustulent bits.

I assembled my first T34 for my Russians. Hot swappable turrets from Plasti Soldier Company. I picked up a box of them and two Katyushka rocket launchers.

I'm also painting this up for a friend's Deadlands campaign

Scenery Maintenance

Took a break from painting miniatures to do some scenery. I fixed all the chips and broken bits on most of the LOTR ex GW terrain Nathan gave the club to add sturdiness and durability. Plus I did a few of my own pieces as well.
The whole table.

Leather Huts/Yurts, giving them MDF and CD bases to make them more durable and long lasting.

Armature for new tree system I'm doing. Hopefully be able to make enought for a forest to cover an entire table for Mordheim games and get some going for the club. Plus some walls in the background that neederd touching up.

MDF Kitset house with Hirst arts rock wall. Just needs the roof and Exterior planks on the walls to be done.
Yes, she does scenery too.

For Mother Russia!

I had a look at all my sorted out bits and then I realised it was all wrong. So much snapping off of minis and regluing later I have my Russian Army.

It includes:
1 Strelkovy Company  incl Command Rifle/MG Team, 3 Rifle Platoons and Komissar Team 365 points
1 Strelkovy Machine Gun Company, including Command Rifle Team, and 1 Machine-Gun Platoon 80 points
1 Strelkovy Scout Platoon, incl Command Recce SMG team, and 2 Scout Squads of Recce SMG Teams 165 points
plus 2 more Komissars and  some Russian Peasants (really must get more of these)

...so 610 points all up.

I may need to get some more rifle guys just to pad out the units as I was using some dead russians the Kommisars had killed to ad to the units. THAT'S WHY THEY'RE FEARLESS.

Russians, Harpies and Ogryns

I have done a wee bit more work on my Russians, assembling and cleaning mold lines, etc. Still recovering from my cold though., I found some Selley's No More Gaps works well for filling out the bases. So I have Rifle Command, Kommissar and 2 companies of rifle/mg Strelkovy and a Rfile Command and a HMG company. I will be putting together some SMG guys tonight to get me up to 500 points. I even got some 15mm peasants as well. I'm thinking of getting the 3 15mm box sets of russian, infantry, tanks and guns from Plastic Soldier Company to see if I can round out to 1500 points. Should be fun.

The Ogryns are done and I'm quite chuffed with how they look. Almost makes me want to do an IG army. I did a lot of battered armour plating and scuffing the paint off their steel toed boots. They look ruddy and like battle hardened veterans. The guy I painted them for likes them and wants me to do some Deadlands stuff next week.

I have inked up the Furies/Harpies, I'm going for a red/purple/blue look. The glossyness of the old GW Inks is something I love, especially for doing flesh.

And finally I have assembled some plaguebearers my wife got me. SHE UNDERSTANDS!  As an added bonus you can get two units of Nurglings from the box as well.

I'm a Wargamer and Proud.

So I've borrow this off stumpy a blog I follow

To genuinely call yourself a Wargamer, then you must have done most or all of the following:

Spent at least $1000 on figures/vehicles/monsters and you get extra kudos for every $1000 you've spent
I've spent shitloads. About 2000 just on my daemons alone. Let's see, collecting on and off for 18 years. I'm gonna limit it to 5 points for this one. (5 points)

Covered your fingers in layers of superglue to the point where you can no longer bend them
Plastic multipart sets. (1 point)

Tried at least 10 different rule sets and vowed never to play half of them ever again
Nope.

Bought an army off EBay/TradeMe
Yes got most of my Tzeentch Daemons this way. (1 point)

Sold an army on EBay/Trade Me
Tyranids. bleh what a mistake buying them.  (1 point)

Spent months painting an army - then used it in anger once
Nope. but I did paint up some necrons as a comission job and I hated every minute of it.

Tried several different periods/genres or different army books.
I have 5 WFB armies going back 4 editions and most of the army books as well.(1 point)

Dropped a box of figures on the floor from a great height
Yes. My Tzeentch daemons. Your heart just goes into your mouth when it happens. (1 point)

Lost a battle on the last throw of the dice
Well we've called it when you lose like your last unit (1 point)

Had a proper, stand up argument over a wargamers table
Not yet.

Thrown a dice across a room
Yes, bad dice. done in fun though (1 point)

Repainted an entire army simply because
Yes redoing my Bretonnians slowly at the moment (1 point)

Inflicted a whopping defeat on an opponent
First round wins in torunaments until you can get to the more experienced gamers. When I kill deathstars. (1 point)

Suffered an embarrassing defeat due to a stupid tactical decision
Deployment usually (1 point)

Purchased a ton of models that remain unpainted
Hell yeah. the only reason I live is because of my unfinished miniatures.(1 point)

Been to a wargamers show/tournament
Half a dozen or so (1 point)

You have reference books on each period / army you play or for WHFB/40k relevant fiction.

You have lied to your partner / spouse about how much you've spent on the hobby
No, she knows, she has her own armies as well.

You get genuinely excited when a package arrives in the posts
Yes (1 point)

You get those packages sent to your work/parents rather than your home address so you can sneak the extra models home slowly without your wife/husband/partner finding out how much you spent
No

You have returned from a wargames show/tournament and sneaked upstairs to hide the stash.
With my former parter, yes, but she wasn't interested anyway (1 point)
You have an irrational aversion to some genres and vow never to play them regardless of how much fun they look

You have made your own wargames scenery.
  Still doing it (1 point)

You have lost - and regained - your wargaming mojo.
Yes for a period of several years. I didn't do anything. Now I'm back (1 point)

Yes.(1 point)

You have jealously coveted someone else's troops.
Yes, repeatedly. (1 point)
You have laughed (secretly or otherwise) as someone else's paint job
No. mostly mould lines really get me, especially when the paint job is half decent.

You have provided a piece of useless trivia relating to the troops on the table to show off your wargaming knowledge
When you've been wargaming for over 10 years, this is a given. I do this every club night. The kids love old wargaming stories of backi in the day, well at least I think they do. (1 point)

You have contradicted someone elses' trivia - demonstrating your superior knowledge and giving you a warm glow inside.
Yes  (1 point)

Nope.

You have lied to an attractive woman (man) - not your partner - about being a wargamer.
No, it's a point of pride.

You have made an opponent cry.  It doesn't count if they are under 8 years old though.
My children, but that's because I'm a mean daddy and want them to learn how to play ntil they can beat me fairly like I did with my dad and Chess (1 point)
