Nurgle versus Dwarfs in the ruins

Matt is an up and coming Dorf player just joined our club. He has some awesome painting skills and we've been running some games. I got invited over to his place on the weekend to have a look at his basement gaming setup. He also has some scenery printing business on the side he's trying to promote.

http://instagram.com/printablescenery

The Dorfs stare nervously across the battlefield. The walls and castles are printed scenery. Only the tower isn't.
Top down view of the action.

Nurgle in all it's glory; Blood and pestilence spread by the grandpap of disease.

The stalwart dorfs.

Pincer movement of Epidemius, Furies and GUO to avoid unfortunate cannon accidents in first turn.

Iron drakes and Cannon defend the hill.

Beast has the flank all to himself. These guys can handle themselves, I've had single beasts kill Orc warlords, Unkilleable Chaos BSBs, Stonehorns. Daemon Princes, and countless infantry.

Nurglings in the forest. These Varmint aint your normal woodland creatures.

Kill pile at end of second turn. Both generals killed each other. Stupid daemonslaying rune.

Beasts are fast. I had one unit of 6 of them chewing though the thunderers. The rest of the Plaguebearers walking through the forest after the

Gyrobomber hits beast twice without scattering and the Beast saves both much to Mark's chagrin. He then charges and gets cutdown by the Iron Drakes.

Epidemius and Plaguebearers eat into the Hammerers. Tzeentch's will had taken off more daemons than the hamerrers had at this point.

Plague Drones start eating the longbeards, the cannon crew are overrun by beasts after the beasts chew through the thunderers. The big unit of plaguebearers faces down the other unit of hamerers.

Nurgle Cleaning up what's left.
At the end of the battle only the Gyrobomber and 8 Iron drakes survived the pestilent massacre, I'd lost my GUO, all my furies and a handful of casualties from every unit to double 1 result on reigns of chaos table. We ended up talking about more effective dwarf tactics after the game and how he possibly should have castled in on of the corners and provided better support as I was able to take on his guys one at a time.

Paragon of Decay - 2nd Nurgle Legion - Round 1

The mountain pass rumbled with doom, a Great Nurgle Legion was approaching the blighted lands of the Vampires. Hasurkil the Harvester of Entropy had decided the undead horde of Valter Harkon was to be cropped. Too long had the undead flesh stayed the hand of decay and entropy. The Grandfather was guiding the scythe of Hasurkil to reap the undead scourge.  The Undead were today an obimnation that had to be eradicated. Life had to bloom again so it could decay.

So I played Nick in round 1 and wiped out his Vampire blender lord undead army and took one of his mountains.

I took: Paragaon of Decay with Chaos Warrior core

Hasurkil Bloodpus the Harvester of Entropy - Daemon Prince General of 2nd Nurgle Legion.

Chaos Armour,  Demonic Flight, Level 4, Lore of Nurgle, Mark of Nurgle,
Flaming Breath, Scaled Skin, Soul feeder, Charmed Shield, Dragonbane Gem, Sword of Striking

Exalted Hero BSB - "Aaron Gilmore" of the faded white flag.

Hideous Visage, Poisonous Slime, Dawnstone, Enchanted Shield

40 Chaos Marauders with flails, mark of Nurgle and full command
20 Chaos Warriors  with Halberds, mark of Nurgle and full command
1 x Chimera, Flaming Breath, Regenerating Flesh
4 x Beast of Nurgle
1 x Beast of Nurgle
1 x Beast of Nurgle
5 x Furies of Nurgle
5 x Furies of Nurgle
Chaos Spawn (60pts) Mark of Nurgle

Nick had:
VC Blender Lord,
10 Black Knigths
VC BSB
30 Ghouls
30 Skellies
3 Wraiths
2 x 5 Dire wolves
Black Coach
7 Blood Knights

I had bad dice rolling this game and only got one spell off, however mitigated this with manoevreing of DP and Chimera. Most of the game I had the ascendancy so didn't have to suffer the Scorn of Chaos which was great. Nick sucked his BSB down a hole and killed his blood knights with the aoe and left my DP swatting at the air. The beasts were again the stars of this battle, they lasted forever and did exactly what I needed them to do. My BSB (appropriately named after the battle because he was made of fail) was crap, rolled 12 and then 10 for my break test on my Nurgle Marauders who ran and got mowed down by the Black knight bus. Plague wind finished most of them off took the last wound off the VC general. Blood knights die really easily and is most satisfying with every wound they take.

In the Aftermath my Chaos Warriors got promoted to a regiment of renown and gained Stubborn, So they're now called the "Warriors of Eternal Lesions". Bad ass if you ask me.  I might sit tight on my 3 Mountains and delve next round. Get some of the good gold and maybe some armour for my GUO.

Gobbos vs Daemons

Had 3 games over last 2 days with my 7th ed. daemons(in practise for Natcon), lost by 500 points to Sam Whitt's nicely painted Orcs and Gobliins, finally beat Hamish's nasty Skaven list by 500 points(first victory for me over Skaven) and a game versus Fern's Night Goblins.

In the game versus Sam I moved badly allowing his chariots to kill all my chaff and I didn't play aggressive enough. The Savage orcs with bows was an interesting tactic. I don't think it's as good as having AHW though.

My two letter hordes was much more functional after charging across the field in a meeting engagement against Hamish's Skaven. I had enough to blast his slave units in two turns to break them and i landed 2 killingblows against his grey seer, killing him on the second one. I only managed to get 3 wounds off the bell but that will change once I've stopped playing 7th ed. daemons. Skull Cannons.

So this is a bit of a pictorial expose, the missus and I had a 2500 point game of my Daemons versus her Night Goblins on Wednesday night. Fern's been Horde painting at the moment so has lots of Skaven and night Goblins being painted.

I had
Herald of Khorne, BSB and Armour of Khorne
Herald of Khorne, Firestorm Blade and Armour of Khorne
Herald of Tzeentch,Winged Horror, Master of Sorcery:Death
herald of Tzeentch, Spell breaker, master of Sorcery:light
39 Bloodletters Full command
39 Bloodletters Full command
19 Pink Horrors, musician, standard, icon of sorcery
3 Screamers
3 Screamers
5 Furies
1 Bloodcrusher
1 Bloodcrusher
1 Fiend of Slaanesh
1 Fiend of Slaanesh
1 Beast of Nurgle.

Fern had
Night Goblin Great Shaman with 4+ ward
Warboss on gigantic spider
2 Big Bosses
2 level 2 Night gobbo shamans
60 Night Goblins full command
60 Night Goblins full command
20 Night goblins w/ 3 fanatics
20 Night goblins w/ 3 fanatics
3 x 5 Spider riders
2 Goblin doom divers
1 Rock Lobber
2 Mangler Squigs
Arachnarok

We only got up to end of turn 3, just learning to speed up games with night goblin army and

Daemon Setup
Night Goblins
Night Gobbos hiding
Turn 1Furies draw Fanatics out
Arachnarok being redirected for flank charge.
a little too close for comfort.
Very close.
What happened to all the stuff in the middle, Mangler Squig, that's what.
No more Arachnarok; Flaming Herald of Khorne and Bloodletters dealt to that.
Two Fnatics pop through my Unit of letters taking a couple of casualties.
These guys didn't end up doing much for the rest of the battle.
Also spent some time with the little Berzerker and got his Dorf Cannons base coated, painted 1 layer and based. only needs a wash and some details picked out and the base fully pauinted and flocked.

MVP Great Unclean One

MVP GUO

Had a couple of games last night at our final club night. One versus Hamish's Skaven and a second against Luke's Ogres. We're getting in practice games with our team tournament lists so pulling now stops.

I took my 3 Bloodletter horde list and he turtled like a dwarf in the corner. Dirty Stinking rat turtling in the corner.

He ended up beating me 12-8 but would have beaten him had he not gotten irresistable force off on his Dreaded 13th twice. Bleh. Need ward save against that crap. Yay....

Second game against Luke, absolutely destroyed Luke's Ogre army.

Battle for the pass, nice and tight with little flanking.

I move up my letters and he puts his charge redirectors in and Mournfangs into a fiend.
I charge everything and wipe them out and reform with 2 units of Letters.

The other one overruns into Mournfangs and he charges my flank with Ogre and character...

So timewarp on letters disappears both units of Ogres and Mournfangs and the Ogres run away 3" and get mown down.
He rightly decided to pour a whole bunch of shots on my GUO with Balesword. and then the GUO got into combat.  He ended up accounting for a 2 units of trappers, a giant and a unit of shooter ogres. A couple of timewarps on some Bloodletters and the Ogres ended up in red mists on the battlefield. I ended up losing a handful of models in each unit and lost both my Fiends.

GUO is beast, he hasn't died yet in any of my games and apart form poor movement with my GUO in the skaven game he performs well. He loves to eat ogres chopped finely but is crap against massed infantry. He almost always instakills any monsters/monstrous infantry etc. With the preponderance of Monstrous Cavalry/Infantry/Beasts he is essential. I'll just let my Bloodletters go up against everything else.

I'm still undecided as to whether I go with 2 or 3 Hordes on my daemon list for this tournament in February and get some anti-redirectors against those nasty throwaway units. I kind of think better rules would deter chaff redirectors, I may need to drop the third unit. But I will trial a soulgrinder and more fiends.

Fluffy Daemons Vs Dark Elves 2400

I played Herman's Dark Elves last night and boy was it fun. Due to my wargaming hiatus I hadn't faced Dark Elves in the last 2 Editions. I took the list from my previous post. Here they are lined up in all their chaos glory/

Herman's Dark Elves consisted of Dreadlord, Lvl 4 Dark sorceress, lvl 2 death sorceress, master BSB, 33 Crossbows, 8 Dark Riders, 9 Executioners + character, 2 Reaper BT, cauldron of blood, hags, witch elves. Hmmm. 80+ shots and 2 bolt throwers, I'll take light magic on my MOS Tzeetnch Herald tyvm.

We rolled off for meeting engagement, which I was suprememly happy about because I wouldn't get absolutely shot to shit getting across the board. Here is how we deployed.

Herman had his character and executioners in reserves and I had my Daemon prince, Herald of Khorne, Herald of Nurgle and Plaguebearers in reserve. I downloaded Battle Chronicler for the diagrams. It took me a little while to figure out the program but it's pretty darn cool.

Dark Elves Turn 1
Dark Riders move up to bait Daemonettes, Witch Elves Fail to charge the Horrors, Repeater Crossbows shoot the crap out of the Screamers. Pretty much no Magic.

Daemons Turn 1
Fiend Chargers RBT and kills 1 crew, Beast wipes out other RBT, Flesh hounds move to within 1" of Crossbows. Bloodletters march forward. Daemonettes charge Dark riders and roll 11 for charge as Dark riders flee and get chopped down. I get off the Net of Amyntok on his big unit of Crossbow and 2 mages embedded. This pretty much nullifies his next magic phase and shooting.

Dark Elves Turn 2

Witch Elves fail their charge again. Executioners come on. Fiend finishes off the remaining RBT crewman. He fails to pass any strength tests for shooting and magic so my units are left unmolested. the Xbow unit takes a few hits from the Net spell.

Daemons Turn 2

Flesh hounds charge in unmolested. Fiend turns to face the Executioners, all my reserves come on and I wheel my Daemonettes and Beast of Nurgle around. I fickle fire the witch elves killing a couple. I roll 1 less on casting on my first light spell, magic over and like 7 die left. damn.

Dark Elves Turn3

He finally charges my Horrors with the witch elves, surprisingly I make almost all of my 4+ ward save and cop very few wounds. He destroys fiend and overruns executioners into bloodletters flank. My flesh hounds are wiped out by Xbow Elves due to combat results (I rolled high) and he reforms to face my daemonettes.

Daemons Turn 3

Daemonettes charge crossbow unit and take half a dozen wounds. In Combat I take out 10 xbow elves and he takes out similar amount of daemonettes, I win but he is stubborn. Witch elves whittle Horror unit down to 5, no more spells from them. Executioners are wiped by Daemon Prince. Herald of Khorne is killed by Executioner character. Herald of Slaanesh kills DE Master BSB.

Dark Elves Turn 4

Witch Elves wipe out Horrors and Xbow elves deal to the daemonettes but they are down to 15 models or so.

Daemons Turn 4

Daemon Prince charges rear of Xbow unit, Bloodletters (now at 12) charge flank. Lots of pointy eared casualties ensue but he is still stubborn.

Dark Elves Turn 5

Wipe out entire XBow unit bar level 4 Sorceress with 2 W left and she flees, neither unit catches her. The witch elves move around.

Daemons Turn 5

Daemon prince cuts down the sorceress and I lay a trap for the Frenzied witch elves.

Dark Elves Turn 6

Witch Elves charge the beast blocker and wipe him out, then overrun and expose flank and rear.

Daemons Turn 6
Plaguebearers finally get into combat and Bloodletters hit rear. I end up taking out 7 with elves and he scores 2 plaguebearers and 5 Bloodletters and combat gets drawn because of witch's brew. Very enjoyable game and a win for daemons. We played for 4 hours.

Things I learned.
Eternal hated is nasty. Lots of Xbows is nasty. Daemon prince is actually pretty good with rerolls to hit and rerolls to wound is very viable. Meeting engagement hurt my herald buffs. Light Magic is pretty good for daemons against shooty armies. I have to remember the spells he got off and take my camera next time.

In other news it looks like daemon stuff is looking interesting.

from StickMonkey on Warseer...

My last bit:

I forgot about Furies. They have been redone, they are coming for Daemons, they look so much better than the current models. The question will be if their rules make them worth it. They are about Nid Gargoyle sized, maybe a bit larger. Bat wings. Much more daemonic heads with toothy maws in 2 parts like the horrors and bloodletters. Not the bat men of old. Dual kit with a new ground based daemon, much like the vargheist/crypt horrors (which I've mentioned before).

There are a lot of questions winging my way about the GD. So to try to address those:

1. I don't know for sure all 4 will be released at once or if they will be in waves.
2. I have conflicting rumors they are moved to the oval base and are roughly the size of the beastmen gorghon, vs staying on the 60mm round bases. Based on my personal eyes on on WIP before, they are bigger. The GUO was not as big as the FW model, but its bigger than a dreadnought. My source says the GUO is the best looking of the new models, that it is "absolutely rot, in a good way".
3. The BT should be slightly shorter than the dreadknight. stylewise it hasnt changed much.
4. The KoS is the most changed style wise. Does not go towards the FW model or retain the style of the current GW model. Still very slaaneshi
5. The LoC AFAIK is the tallest of the models, not just due to the wings. Did not appear as hunched as before. Head options include a more fishy looking option.

I love it when companies give you free rules, it makes you want to buy from them Dystopian Wars.

Pure Khorne Daemons Vs Tournament Orcs & Gobbos

So I had a battle against Nick's Orcs & Goblins last night at the club.

He took:
Savage Orc Warboss
A handful of mages and chars (Can't remember what... I mean who can count with goblins they didn't do much anyway)
40 Savage Orc Big Un's
50 goblin bowmen with poison
18 Blorcs
8 Trolls
2 Rock Lobbers
2 Bolt throwers
1 doom diver.

What I took
Tooled up bloodthirster
2 HoKs on Juggers (one a BSB)
Skulltaker
26 Bloodletters FC
23 Bloodletters FC
12 Bloodletters
6 Flesh hounds
6 Flesh hounds
Bloodcrusher
Bloodcrusher

Rolled scenario for Watchtower...again. I deploy 12 'letters in watchtower. in hindsight I'm gonna drop this unit or beef it up.

Deployment

Daemons
From my left to right: Bloodcrusher + 1 unit of hounds on flank, 1 unit of hounds in middle, big unit of letters with HOK BSB and skulltaker on right side of middle, bloodcrusher shielding Bloodthirster and other unit of letters with HOK on flank.

Orcs & Gobbos
From my left to right:
Doomdiver, bolt thrower, 50 gobbos, rocklobber at back, bolt thrower,18 Blorcs, 40 SO Big'Uns, rock lobber and 8 trolls on my right flank

Orc Turn 1
Savage Orcs fail animosity and try to charge watchtower, trolls fail leadership, Blorcs move up, Artillery does nothing, magic bounces off my hounds. Bloodthirster takes hit from stone thrower and shrugs it off.

Daemon Turn 1: I move my army up maximum to charging distance. the big letter horde to charge either the SO big Un's or the trolls.

Orc Turn 2: Blorcs charge my flesh hounds and I kill half a dozen of them and he takes 1 wound away leaving me with 5 flesh houdns, SO Big'Uns charge the watchtower wiping out my 12 Letters inside. Magic does nothing.... and then BAMMMM, Stone thrower direct hits again on the Bloodthirster, I fail my ward, he rolls 6 on wounds. Bloodthirster is pwned. DAMN!

Daemon Turn 2:
Not good, not good, not good. BAH.... I decide to roll with the punches and continue on. The left Bloodcusher charges doom diver and wipes them out and overruns off the board, other flesh hounds wipe out bolt thrower and overrun. failed leadership on ovverrunnning. Somebody sabotaged my brakes.
Cookies in the background...mmm yum.

Battle is joined
Big unit of Bloodletters charge the trolls killing 4 of them. Firestorm blade ftw. I take a few casualties and trolls flee. I follow but don't roll high enough. They wont be back right withh LD4? right? my other bloodletter move up behind trolls to give support and the other bloodcrusher moves up. in front of the big bloodcrusher unit.
No more War Machine left here.

Stupid Greater Daemon

Orc Turn 3
SO big Un's hole up some more in the watchtower. the flesh hounds and Blorcs take a few more wounds off. each other, down to 4 flesh hounds and 8 Blorcs. The gobbo unit turns to shoot down the flesh hounds and bloodcrusher on far left flank. They kill a couple of Fleshounds. Bloodcrusher scores another direct hit from rock lobber and dies. That's 3 direct hits from the same rock lobber. The other rock lobber blows up. The trolls flee to the edge of the table.

"That's the last we've seen of them!"
Poison shooter gobbo unit turns to wipe out my Flesh hounds
Daemon Turn 3
I turn to face my Big Bloodletter unit at the watch tower and reform 6 wide. My other letter move around to provide 1-2 punch on the watch tower if needed. I ignore the fleeing trolls. The Blorcs go down to 5 and flesh hounds down to 2. I manouevre my left fleshounds around and the bloodcrusher as well. They're not going to do much I think.

Orc Turn 4
Trolls rally on a 4...ffs. Ah well. I ignore them as they're going to take a long time getting into combat. The flesh hounds are killed off by the gobbo archers. The Blorcs go down to 3 and the fleshounds down to 1. another direct hit fromt hat rock lobber on my untouched bloodletter unit.

Daemon Turn 4
I charge my remaining bloodcrusher into his unit of archers who fail to kill him, he challenges and wipes out unit champion. I charge my big letter horde into the watch tower. Skulltaker issues a challenge and does nothing agianst the unit champion, the herald kills the savage orc Warboss(finally something going my way) and the remaining letters take out 3 more SO Big Uns. He does 9 wounds back and I back out from the tower. The Blorcs kill off the last Flesh hound and go down to 2 left.

He rolls a 6 to end the game. Double damn. My luck was crap tonight and I lose. Another turn and I would have wiped out his mage in the unit(who was giving them a 5+ ward) and whittled them down maybe winning combat. he passed all his frenzy checks to not move out of the watch tower. I just needed more turns and I may have pulled a win out.
My Graveyard.

What I learnt:

Khorne Magic Defence is awesome. I was a little perturbed to start off with I would have no magic defence but the MR(1)+ for the entire army is awesome. His magic did virtually nothing the whole game

Artillery sucks. Furies are in order. I will drop the unit of bloodletters and take 2 units I think.

Skulltaker is awesome, I'm never leaving home without him in a khorne army at WS9 I9 and 5+ Killing blow in challenges, he's almost certain to kill characters.

Must sacrifice virgins instead of goats to the dice gods before game.

Here's a picture of my number one cheerleader assmbling her black knights...with green hair and green nails. It's spring and she's going through a green phase.

Sam out.
