Warmahordes, Puppet Wars and Malifaux WIP post skitterleap

It's been a while since last non - warhammer post and we're fully into Warmahordes at the moment. It's turning out to be a blast and Chris Otton is running a Journeyman league at our club.  This is what is on our painting trays at the moment post Skitterleap.

More of entertainers, mannequins and undead whores. It's nice to paint some dresses occasionally. chose nice bright colours. Not sure I will ever play the game but I have Perdita's crew as well to assemble.

Haven't heard much about raging heroes kickstarter but just early days yet. They are 3d sculpting from what I gather. Dark Elves for Games workshop are rumoured for 2 months so RH might kick off their next Kickstarter then.

Mierce next kickstarter is on the 16th September it appears. Hmmm.

Boring Blogger

So most of my creative energies has been pooled into Kiwihammer at the moment. I'm still looking at doing most of my non warhammer related stuff on this blog so have been focusing mainly on warhammer lately. This blog will retain mostly Flames of War, D&D, miscellaneous miniatures and what not. Here is a little fun I had on the weekend with my Nurgley boys.

Cracked open a copy of old Puppet wars last night and going to paint them up and help paint and assemble the new plastic Puppet Wars with the missus. Cute and evil, they should be a fun project.

Have recieved 2nd wave of Mantic stuff and submitted my survey for 3rd wave, going for 40 gargoyles (for bringer of the swarm) and another 12 Trolls for my monster mash WOC list.

Still waiting on Reaper Bones kickstarter notification. Just slightly peeved it's been 2 months since they first started shipping. It's getting kind of IRRITATING!!!1!

I ended up pledgin 165 for Raging heroes Kickstartr which should be done in...god knows when, just money off into the ether for lots and lots of miniatures sometime in the future.

John from Pukeko Games is closing down and will be getting rid of his stock. It's too bad because he was like the only stockist of Reaper in the country. Damn.

Seeing if we can do 1000 points of Flames of War down the club on Thursday and decide on team names for NZTC.

The last week in Gaming - May 2013

For some reason I rarely get to post on my blog when I'm off work for a week.

Nurgle Daemons 

They're sitting in a naughty corner after a couple of nasty games versus orcs & goblins (Fern and Nick). Lost 4 in a row with it at the moment. Fern has a killer list with 80 Night gobbos with bows and BSB with Poison banner. It's painful. I'm working on variations without a GUO and with. I'll have to trial this list

The key is getting at least 1 General, BSB and 2 standards to compete in Blood and Glory. Epidemius will either be in a corner or near the Plague drones to benefit from Look out Sir. Or take 2 Skillcannons (of Nurgle;-) and shoot dangerorus stuff like rock lobbers, cannons and screaming bells off the board.). We'll see how it goes and whether I want to buy another box of drones.

Khorne Daemons  

Broke out the pure Khorne daemons and took them to Warlords on the weekend and they faired fairly well. I ran:

Bloodthirster, 1 Greater Gift and 2 lesser Gifts
Herald of Khorne, Bloodthrone, BSB, Locus of Fury and Lesser Gift
2 x 30 Bloodletters with full command
3 Bloodcrushers
5 Flesh Hounds with ambush
2 Skill Cannons


Number of drops was amazingly short. I must say the skill cannons are much better as chariots than cannons.

Had a game against Matthew Hassal(High Elves) and Pete Dunn (Mixed Daemons -Mostly Tzeentch) and both time they faired pretty well. The throne works really well  especially nuzzled in between the two Bloodletter units. Bloodthirster was a star especially with little artillery to take him out.

High Elves

Been having a look at Highelves, I only got a few miniatures so far, but was having a look at something like this.

So I'm currently painting Daemon Princes, Throgg, and 6 Ogres. Progress has been slow as a wet week since the Tournament. The red Daemon Prince is almost done Hamish.

All things Kickstarter: Reaper

I picked up an Ogre Chieftain and 6 Kobolds from Pukeko Games on tghe weekend when we went to Warlords games. Have reordered some primer so can primer them and start painting, the detail is marginally less than normal but acceptable for the drastic decrease in price. reaper are waiting on last 2 Containers to reach them so they can start processing our order.

Dice Rings Kickstarter

Dice rings will start shipping soon. Then we will be blinging it out with our geeky rings.

Mantic Kings of War Kickstarter

Whilst Deadzone is out am still waiting on Kings of War, I might drop another hundred on High Elves or Dorfs. Still not sure. I have some Elf sprues from the crazy games discounted box they did at Christmas and whilst being tiny wasted they're not bad sculpts.It might be just the thing to really grate on Hamish's nerves by playing with alternate models, especially since he has High Elves.

Other Kickstarters

Then it's on to Kickstarters I'm watching/waiting for. Secret Weapon Terrain Kickstarter is looking awesome and will probably end up setting me back a couple of hundred for a Necromunda runied streets board. Raging Heroes Toughest Girls in the Galaxy: this I will most certainly drop some cash on. I've been waiting for this for a long long time. Hopefully because of their delays in starting it will be awesome. All quiet on the martian front kickstarter looks cute as a button. And then there is the Robotech kickstarter.

So I got some Russians this week and my do they look fantastic on their sprues, got so much more detail than the battlefront miniatures. and only took 5 days to deliver from UK there are 130 infantry, 60 Infantry w/ heavy weapons and 5 T34's

I think I have like;

2 to 3 Strelkovy platoons with HQs and Komissars.
3 x3 T34/85s with command tank (10 all up).
4 Mortar teams
7 HMG teams
4 heavy mortar teams
4 anti tank rifle teams.
8 SMG teams
2 Katyushkas
I will be making sapper teams as well.


Now just have to assemble it all and paint it.

Which reminds me, the missus got all my old miniatures I'd gotten in trades over the years out and based them all ready to paint. She likes different stuff to paint, I'm finding girls are more inclined to this,. the Little Dryad is like this as well and is pining for her reaper kickstarter stuff next year. Missus was excited because she ordered this Nethyrmaul.

Now there is a whole bunch of RAFM, Grenadier, Warzone, Chronopia, Harlequin, etc. figures in there. It takes years to get this kind of painting chaff together.

I'm just keen on getting my Mantic stuff which is starting to look real good.I especially like the troll.

 The Paladin is looking great as well.

BRUCE IS IN DA' HOUSE and other stuff

Guess what I got in the mail today. I'm super happy.

He's called Bruce.

He was a little worse for ware and missing a whole bunch of bits but managed to get him to primer stage after cleaning off mould lines and flash. Some people are tragic at this hobby. One resurrected giant for $30. luv trademe.

Have also done the base coats for the belly and horns and wings for the Twilight sisters dragon and it's looking even more impressive now.

Also put in our pledges on the Reaper Pledge Manager and now all we have to do is wait.

So had a week off and mostly did study and played with the kids.



On Thursday took the 3 kids and the neighbour's down to the gaming club and they played 1k points each, tombkings and Dark elves versus Night Goblins and Wood Elves. Only got 3 turns done but they had a tonne of fun. 6 Trolls in a watchtower are very hard to root out and they had a hoot about the fanatics. Oldest son was miffed because he forgot his army book and didn't have time to get into some 40k.

On Saturday rolled chars for all the kids to play D&D 3.5 edition. It will probably take another session to get all the stuff sorted but then we can start with some dungeons. I have the d20 Warlock of Firetop Mountain which I ran about 8 years ago for my last gaming group. Excellent starting campaign. in order of age they chose Elven Ranger, Halfling Rogue, Elven Sorceress, Gnome druid and Half-elf paladin. should be interesting. I'll have to do some more room templates up with hirst arts blocks. And I got the kids to do some maths as well;-). Still deciding whether to go 4th ed. or go Pathfinder.

On Sunday we had trading day down at the local club and managed to score an old Tzeentch sorcerer and some old 3rd edition fiends. So didn't get much but managed some swaps. The kids got more than me.

Little Dryad got some 20mm napoleonics, 8 wardancers and 10 dryads (still 25 more to buy when she has more pocket money.)
Little Liche got 2 devastator squads and an assault Squad of Space Marines.
Little Sorceress decided to collect dark eldar and got 2 swooping hawks, 7 guardians and a banshee. I added another 4 when we got home.
The Little Berzerker picked up a squad of CSM's, 3 CSM bikes and 12 Khorne Berzerkers. Guess he's collecting Chaos in 40k ow. He'll have to wait until xmas  for the stunties though.
The Little barbarian got a tank and some army men.

All happy. As this was first annual it was pretty good to see a few extras and get some good trades in. I think Nathan was a bit perplexed to see me in my Mantic shirt. Hehe.


Oh and I assembled more Mantic Orcs...fully assembling an army takes a long time.Especially from scratch. usually I would be buying and doing up a unit at a time.

Reaper kickstarter finished

So the Reaper kickstarter finished and we ended up ordering  3 Vampires plus about $150 worth of extras. That is spread out amongst me, the missus, the little dryad, liche and sorceress. They wanted Dragons. Dragons are cool. So just have to wait for the Survey or the Reaper pledge manager and then can order exactly what we want. 44 hours to go for the Bones Kickstarter.

Almost finished my assignment so I can get down to some more hobby on the weekend. Probably end up spending most of Sunday morning with the kids, helping the little dark elf sorceress with her army and the little liche with his spayce marines and the little dryad with her orksies and probably get the younger 2 to do some heroquest figure painting.

Surprise, surprise this morning. The little Dryad decided she wants to spend all her pocket money on the vampire pledge. Weeeeeeel really. Waiting for the other kids to get back

So the missus has chipped in cause she wants a few extras and I think 1-3 of my kids will want in as well.

Miscellaneous August Update

Haven't had too much time to do painting as I've been studying. and tired due to having to fly to hamilton and back yesterday to vistis Fern's grandma in hospital. After I finish my assignment I'll get the Daemonettes finished and get something else on my painting table.

If there is 1 place I'd like to be right now it would beat Gencon... linking someone elses pictures shamelessly.

The Reaper bones kickstarter is going insane. I'll be putting in a pledge on wednesday for vampire level + some extras. anyway it's up around 930k and it's an insane amount of figures. Just too good to pass up.

I'm just using my blog to spitball so I like the look of fire giant and Ice giant kings and queens, some of the dragons and maybe the spider centaurs. I already have a jabberwocky as a stand in for my jabberslythe in my beastmen army.

The new 40k box set is out next month and it looks like I might need a whole bunch of cultists. They'll make awesome Necromunda gangs and then i just have to find someone who like Dark Angels.

Or just add them into the Morass of my Necromunda Escher tank LATD company or 40k Beastmen LATD army. My Dark Eldar are getting no love, so might just grow them organically. Actually no, I lie, I undercoated all my Dark Eldar and my next lot of 20 Bloodletters in Dragon Red Army Painter primer and am goign to go for a lot of blackwashes and some gold highlighting.

My youngest daughter turned 10 and got Dark Elves for her birthday so had a session putting together the Corsairs as she thought they looked awesome. She's been fastdiously reading her army book and cackling.

My other daughter, the wood elf one is going to get a dragon for her birthday, much like the oldest son got his sphinxes.

As to daemons, they'll have to wait til next month at least for what I want to buy, but their are rumours of a Daemon book out in February after the Warriors of Chaos book in November. Seriously looking at doing my chaos warriors army some justice. Maybe get Tamurkhan on his toad dragon and go from there.

...as to my Mantic stuff, still waiting for my reulbook to be printed and posted with my Orc Army. Kind of hanging out for them now after a few months.

Progressing Slowly.

So been busy Playing Civ 4 on the train, touched a bit of paint to my 36 Daemonettes, all the base colouring is done and first ink wash completed. so may nee another wash and then highlighting and touching up to be done and basing.

My better half managed to pick up an old starter set of Illuminati.so we played last night, me as Servants of Cthulhu and her as Shangrila and the highlight of the game was killing Princess Di, never mind winning the game. Lots of good fun and better than the most recent Illuminati release.

I've been sorely tempted by the reaper bones Kickstarter lately.

We'll get back to that. My kids and I have been playing Heroquest and have finished the first campaign on last weekend. At the moment it is their favourite game of all time. So I have a little AD&D apprenticeship group happening with the five of them. The girls will probably end up playing Elves of some configuration, oldest boy will be a Wizard, youngest boy will be the barbarian/warrior/tank and the middle boy will run into the room and die every single time. So anyway back to the kickstarter...lots of miniatures for an awesome foundation for some basic D&D with the kids. as all the stretch goals are being realised it's pushing me to the brink. Especially as for $100US you get all this.

This might push my daemons back a little. I want to get 3 boxes of Plaguebearers, 1 of Nurglings, 1 of Flamers, 1 of Screamers, enough chariots for a hellflayer and exalted chariot. $73 is too much to pay for the blue scribes so will look for a cheaper way to get a verified quality version because it's finecast or just convert my own.

My first lot of Orcs fromt he Mantic Kickstarter should be shipped in the next few weeks once they have the print run done.

Chariot of Slaanesh

Onto my 3rd lot of Daemonettes in progress and Chariot, doing 6 at a time and touching up the previous sets as I go. I've got about 18 more to do after this, also included the reaper mini Vandorendra as my herald of slaaneshi on foot.

The Chariot is the old Chaos warriors chariot. The horses on the original were naff and the Chaos Warriors so-so, I think this is a much prettier use for them. It's a daemon smiley face chariot. I've also just got a normal champion Daemonette as Herald riding the Chariot.

The Seekers are done except for their tongues, haven't decided on the colour and the chariot is still wip.
