So most of my creative energies has been pooled into Kiwihammer at the moment. I'm still looking at doing most of my non warhammer related stuff on this blog so have been focusing mainly on warhammer lately. This blog will retain mostly Flames of War, D&D, miscellaneous miniatures and what not. Here is a little fun I had on the weekend with my Nurgley boys.

How to win a Tournament by the Skin of one's Teeth

Cracked open a copy of old Puppet wars last night and going to paint them up and help paint and assemble the new plastic Puppet Wars with the missus. Cute and evil, they should be a fun project.

Have recieved 2nd wave of Mantic stuff and submitted my survey for 3rd wave, going for 40 gargoyles (for bringer of the swarm) and another 12 Trolls for my monster mash WOC list.

Still waiting on Reaper Bones kickstarter notification. Just slightly peeved it's been 2 months since they first started shipping. It's getting kind of IRRITATING!!!1!

I ended up pledgin 165 for Raging heroes Kickstartr which should be done in...god knows when, just money off into the ether for lots and lots of miniatures sometime in the future.

John from Pukeko Games is closing down and will be getting rid of his stock. It's too bad because he was like the only stockist of Reaper in the country. Damn.

Seeing if we can do 1000 points of Flames of War down the club on Thursday and decide on team names for NZTC.

So we're off to the team's tournament and have our lists submitted, Nick's taking his toys, lots of artilery, 6 fanatics and lots of chaff; Herman is taking 86 Crossbow shots; Hamish's running his last list with 9 Skull crushers and I'm taking 3 Hordes of Bloodletters.

Chaos Warriors

Chaos Warriors rumours look good, I'm building a nurgle army with them so am looking forward to that. I will be using at least 50% non GW, with Avatars of War Corruptors of Pestilence as Warriors of Chaos and Mantic Zombies as Marauders. I've got some mantic trolls fromt he kickstarter coming which look awesome.

I had a bit of a stocktake on my Chaos Warriors. I can do
7 Chaos Knights
5 Marauder horsemen
approximately 50 ol' school chaos warriors
20 Nurgle Chaos Warriors
30 Slaaneshi Marauders
80 Marauders (60 to be assembled)
6 Chaos Ogres
8 Spawn (I can finally use 2 of them as firewyrms again)
1 Dragon Ogre Shaggoth
1 Giant
1 Chimera (new addition to Chaos warriors-already had one for trasnformation and Storm Of magic)
1 Festus

It will look like to make my Nurgle Chaos Warriors I'll need 6 chaos trolls, 20+ Chaos Warriors of Nurgle. Chaos hounds (might use Direwolves), and for overall chaosy goodness wouldn't mind picking up Throgg, 3 Dragon Ogres, Valkia, Hellcanon, some Skullcrushers and Khornate stuff. I would like to do an army for each the chaos gods except Tzeentch.

Daemons

On other stuff apart from having ordered the Chaos warrior book, I've got 20 more Bloodletters and a Maulerfiend to be a Jugger-type Soulgrinder. It will need a bit of greenstuff and some spawn bitz to mage it more organic or just similar to the Juggernauts.If my wife plays daemons as well I might need a hell of a lot more of Bloodletters for NATCON.

Konflict '47 - 15mm Alternate History

Some other stuff I've been looking at is the Clockwork Miniatures  (Dust tactics for 15mm anyone). I love mechs and alternate history. Now, they only have Germans and Americans, but can't wait to see some russian stuff and mix in my Battlefront and Plastic Soldier Company miniatures.

So I got some Russians this week and my do they look fantastic on their sprues, got so much more detail than the battlefront miniatures. and only took 5 days to deliver from UK there are 130 infantry, 60 Infantry w/ heavy weapons and 5 T34's

I think I have like;

2 to 3 Strelkovy platoons with HQs and Komissars.
3 x3 T34/85s with command tank (10 all up).
4 Mortar teams
7 HMG teams
4 heavy mortar teams
4 anti tank rifle teams.
8 SMG teams
2 Katyushkas
I will be making sapper teams as well.


Now just have to assemble it all and paint it.

Which reminds me, the missus got all my old miniatures I'd gotten in trades over the years out and based them all ready to paint. She likes different stuff to paint, I'm finding girls are more inclined to this,. the Little Dryad is like this as well and is pining for her reaper kickstarter stuff next year. Missus was excited because she ordered this Nethyrmaul.

Now there is a whole bunch of RAFM, Grenadier, Warzone, Chronopia, Harlequin, etc. figures in there. It takes years to get this kind of painting chaff together.

I'm just keen on getting my Mantic stuff which is starting to look real good.I especially like the troll.

 The Paladin is looking great as well.

Flames of War -Trademe madness

I love it when you pick up an awesome deal, 2000 points worth of Germans for $35 plus shipping. I got the package yesterday and there are a whole lot of damaged krauts and I think a bunch of smaller scale vehicles.

1x Konigstiger,
2 x Tigers
5x Panzer IVs
6x 7.5cm guns
1x 8.8cm gun
2x Hummels
2 mortar teams
2 HMG teams
about 70 infantry
and some support trucks/transport in 2 scales.

A lot of the stuff is gonna need rebasing/stripping, I think some of the glue used was supposed to be for shoes.

That's not all. For $NZ130 shipped, I have some Plastic soldier company figures coming form UK (130 infantry, 60 Infantry w/ heavy weapons and T34's).  When they arrive I can put up maybe 1500-2000 points of Russian Strelkovy with Tank and infantry heavy weapons support at about 300 models. When you compare the amount of models in both armies,  it's quite striking to understand the difference between German quality and Russian quantity. I'm also brushing up on the History of World War II which I must say is a fascinating read on the overall war as I've only read about parts of the war previously. And I'm looking at tank websites...So sad.

I could have spent twice that on Hobbit boxed set at NZ$245 or $145 on 4 resin infantry figures and been less than satisfied. But I digress, I don't care about LOTR/Hobbit games that much but the prices are enough to make you weep. I had a chat with someone about regional trade embargoes and why GW stuff is so expensive because retail/trade/publicly owned nature of GW and regional considerations and licensing. I understand the angles of why they're trying to justify the prices but it's blown out of proportion. It's like the housing bubble, GW are having a hobby pricing bubble and they'll end up killing themselves out of the hobby.

Nurgle Chaos Warriors, Cultists and T34's

So I splurged out on my Mortal Nurgle army and got the Avatars of War Corruptors of Apocalypse, straight in as Nurgle Chaos Warriors. Here they are in all their bits.

 I must say I'm quite impressed with them, I wouldn't have mided a bit more customizationability but they are extremely nice sculpts and I especiall like the musician.

I had to assemble one with one mutated arm and he is nice and blocky and imposing with lots of details for painting rust and pustulent bits. 

I assembled my first T34 for my Russians. Hot swappable turrets from Plasti Soldier Company. I picked up a box of them and two Katyushka rocket launchers.

 I'm also painting this up for a friend's Deadlands campaign

For Mother Russia!

I had a look at all my sorted out bits and then I realised it was all wrong. So much snapping off of minis and regluing later I have my Russian Army.

It includes:
1 Strelkovy Company  incl Command Rifle/MG Team, 3 Rifle Platoons and Komissar Team 365 points
1 Strelkovy Machine Gun Company, including Command Rifle Team,and 1 Machine-Gun Platoon 80 points
1 Strelkovy Scout Platoon, incl Command Recce SMG team, and 2 Scout Squads of Recce SMG Teams 165 points
plus 2 more Komissars and  some Russian Peasants (really must get more of these)

...so 610 points all up.

I may need to get some more rifle guys just to pad out the units as I was using some dead russians the Kommisars had killed to ad to the units. THAT'S WHY THEY'RE FEARLESS.

Russians, Harpies and Ogryns

I have done a wee bit more work on my Russians, assembling and cleaning mold lines, etc. Still recovering from my cold though., I found some Selley's No More Gaps works well for filling out the bases. So I have Rifle Command, Kommissar and 2 companies of rifle/mg Strelkovy and a Rfile Command and a HMG company. I will be putting together some SMG guys tonight to get me up to 500 points. I even got some 15mm peasants as well. I'm thinking of getting the 3 15mm box sets of russian, infantry, tanks and guns from Plastic Soldier Company to see if I can round out to 1500 points. Should be fun.

 

The Ogryns are done and I'm quite chuffed with how they look. Almost makes me want to do an IG army. I did a lot of battered armour plating and scuffing the paint off their steel toed boots. They look ruddy and like battle hardened veterans. The guy I painted them for likes them and wants me to do some Deadlands stuff next week.

I have inked up the Furies/Harpies, I'm going for a red/purple/blue look.The glossyness of the old GW Inks is something I love, especially for doing flesh.

And finally I have assembled some plaguebearers my wife got me. SHE UNDERSTANDS!  As an added bonus you can get two units of Nurglings from the box as well.
